Half Dead Publishing House does not currently offer advances.
We pay 50% gross royalties on all income from your book, including book sales, royalties, and subsidiary rights (like foreign language translation rights, licensing, and TV or film deals).
Half Dead Publishing House accepts simulatenous book proposals and completed manuscript submissions for dystopian, apocalyptic, and post-apocalyptic fiction from authors with or without a literary agent.
We only accept submissions for original works.

Note: We do not publish fanfiction submissions. We will not consider any submissions written, developed, or assisted by A.I. tools.

Our in-house editors provide free developmental editing, copyediting, and proofreading services to make sure your book is in top shape before we publish it.

Our in-house team designs your book cover and helps you craft the perfect brand for your book.

We layout, design, and print your book in paperback, then distribute it to retailers.

We format, design, and publish your book in eBook format on Amazon Kindle using KDP Select (if we’re not happy with the results from KDP Select for your book, we’ll also distribute the eBook to all other eBook retailers as well as libraries through Overdrive).

We narrate, produce, master, publish, and distribute your book in audiobook format on Audible, Amazon, and iTunes. Sometimes books are not suited to audio format, so our team will let you know if that might be the case for your book.

That's okay, we got you covered! Half Dead Publishing House pays authors for their drabbles, flash fiction, and short stories to be featured in our yearly anthology. We also offer a ghostwriting service that is open to ALL genres; EXCLUDING fanfiction.
Ghostwriting

Half Dead Publishing House publishes drabbles, flash fiction, and short stories (100-5,000 words) in a yearly anthology. It will open for queries on: TBA

We publish Dystopian and Apocalyptic Fiction; stories must involve genre elements in some meaningful way.

We will have set reading periods each year. Submissions will only be read in those reading periods. Stories sent outside of the reading periods will not be read unless they were specifically solicited by the editor. You will receive a notification by the 20th of the month prior to publication.

Compensation: .01 per word for original fiction, paid on publication of the selected work.

Reprints are accepted and paid at .005 per word, half that of original fiction.

We accept simultaneous submissions. Just please let us know if your work was selected elsewhere if we have not yet gotten back to you.

Multiple submissions are welcome (up to 3 at any given moment), sent as separate emails.

The rights we ask for are first-time world electronic rights for original fiction and non-exclusive reprint rights for reprints. We do not have an exclusivity period, you are free to sell your work as a reprint upon publication in our yearly anthology.

Submissions must be sent in standard manuscript format and attached as a .doc, .docx, or .rtf file and sent by email to halfdeadbooks@gmail.com. Please include in the body of the email a short cover letter as well as a short (50 words or less!) bio.

We are a small press. We hope to increase pay rates for all of our anthologies and future projects over time.
Ghostwriting Service
UP TO 25K WORDS: $3,200 | UP TO 38K WORDS: $4,650 | UP TO 45K WORDS: $5,800 |

*Payments can be made via PayPal or bank transfer after the agreement is signed. Half of the total cost is due before the work is started, and the other half is due when the work is completed.
Contract is required and will state the following:
Each package, requires the initial $2500 deposit.
The remaining balance will be split into two payments. One payment is paid, half-way through the completion of the book; before being sent to the customer. And the final payment, the remaining balance, is due before sending the client the final copy of the book. Deposits are only HALF refunded if your order is canceled within the first 20 days, being that your book will be in process from Day 1. If client decides to stop services after 20 days, or after receiving half of the book, DEPOSIT WILL NOT BE REFUNDED.
If decided to cancel service after reading half of the book, client at that point will receive the SECOND PAYMENT back, ONLY in exchange to signing a cancelation form stating that they are canceling the order, that the right's to the half of the book DO NOT belong to them, and that they will NOT USE it. If client refuses to sign the cancelation form, SECOND PAYMENT will NOT be refunded and the client may do as they please with that half of the book.
If the client chooses to continue after reviewing half of the book, the Final Payment will be due upon completion, and before receipt of the final copy. Contract will state that the book, after receipt of final payment, belongs to the client, and all rights to the book will be given to the client upon completion, and exchange of final payment.
Non-Disclosure on our behalf, will be signed and given to the client, stating that we will NEVER disclose writing, or any partaking in the writing of your book.
There is an option to pay entire balance upfront. Simply let us know after placing your initial order. After placing order, the clock starts, and contract needs to be signed and returned, within 24 hours of placing your order.
Turnaround Time: Varies per package. Typically, it takes 1-4 Months (120 business days only) for up to 65,500 words. Usually, books are completed fairly quickly. 3 Book Series can take up to 10 months; delivering a completed book to the client every few months
No Revisions offered. At the receipt of half of the book, requests can be given. At the start of the project, we will request information about the type, and genre of story you are requesting. We will also accept any information at that time about your project that you would like to be included in your store; i.e. names, places, scenes, plot twist, anything that you are certain that you want added.
